K and A made their second annual trek to the tulip fields an hour North of Seattle in the fertile Skagit Valley. The festival runs April 1-30, but unseasonably warm weather in January and February caused early bloom, with the peak in March. We intended to go sooner, but torrentail rains, hail, and general drizzliness kept delaying our excursion. Finally on April 13th we made the trip, and only a few fields remained in bloom. The demonstration garden at Roozengaarde still had plenty of lovely specimens, a few of which are pictured below. K and A enjoyed the deep, muddy puddles more than the acres of blazing blossoms. Thank goodness I packed boots for them, and had plenty of changes of clothes in the car (they went through four sets each that day).
