We were torn between canoeing the nearby wetlands or driving to the mountains for a hike. The weather was superb, so we headed for the hills. Passing through miles of farmland, lush evergreen forest, and breathtaking views of Mt. Rainier looming ever closer, the weather began to turn. We reached the pass with just enough time for a gentle hike (which meant we didn't hear too many pleas of "Carry me, I'm tired" from the girls). On our way down in the car the sky grew dark and thunder and lightning came with heavy rains. Our timing was perfect. In fact, the day was perfect, and one we won't soon forget.
