A started full day Kindergarten on September 8th, 2005. She was very excited to be going to the BIG school, eating lunch in the cafeteria, having recess three times a day, and partaking of all the weekly enrichment activities: playing instruments in the music room, doing crafts in the art room, learning to type in the computer room, running around in the gym, listening to stories in the library, attending concerts and performances in all-school assemblies, etc.

There are big differences between the Montessori she used to attend, and this public elementary school. The Montessori classroom was calm, quiet, clean, and nurturing. This classroom is energetic, noisy, cluttered, and on a busy schedule. I worried about A getting overstimulated. Montessori was nice because it taught her to work quietly and respect other children's space (most of the time).

So far A is doing well and enjoying all the activity. Maybe being so busy is a good thing for one who has so much energy. The garishly bright decorations on the walls, the cluttered activity areas, the cramped seating (it's a smaller room not designed for a kindergarten class, which needs to have a large rug to sit on for circle time, craft areas, etc), and the fluorescent lighting offend my aesthetics, but to A it looks like Disneyland. She is happy, so I suppose I should be happy.
