It was still snowy on Saturday when we went out in search of our tree. It was the first time ever that there had been snow when we went tree shopping, and the sight of snow on the trees was breathtakingly beautiful! I demanded a Noble Fir this year, instead of the columnar, weak branched, needle-dropping Douglas Firs we usually got. We knew it would be expensive, but still were not prepared for the sticker shock. We went to several farms in search of a decent 6 foot tree under $100.00. Many farms were only selling Nobles over 7 feet, which would command at least $100., often much more. At the fourth farm we ended up just buying a pre-cut tree (grown and shipped in from Oregon). It was less expensive and more full than the trees out in the field for cutting. Odd that you'd pay MORE to cut and haul a tree yourself than to buy one pre-cut and trucked in from another state.
