A visit to Santa
We waited in line at the mall to see Santa on a Wednesday afternoon. We could hear the children ahead of us requesting all the usual toys from Santa, the ones that had been heavily advertised this season. When K and A hopped into Santa's lap they asked for puppets, costumes, and books about monkeys, kangaroos, owls, and lions. Santa was surprised. Was that all they wanted? K and A nodded eagerly, and then Santa began sharing interesting facts about the girls' favorite animals. As the line of waiting children grew ever longer, Santa talked about an owls' ability to turn its head so far around, its keen eyesight, and specialized hearing. The girls were enraptured, and I was so pleased that they had the opportunity to experience a Santa who loved animals.
